I've been bad.

Sorry for the major lack of posting lately.  I'm going to jump back in as soon as possible, no worries.  Hopefully this fabulous warm weather will continue and I'll be able to do some outside outfit posts! But until then, here are a few pictures I did for a local website.  The photographer, Meredith Mashburn, was a genius with Photoshop pop art.  Tell me what you think!

Oh and hands down, Sarah Jessica Parker ROCKED the red carpet at the Academy Awards.  Chanel trumps all.

Jewelssss

Okay time for my second outfit post EVER! I love hearing all of your comments, it's so encouraging!

This is an outfit that I wore to a friends birthday recently. I tried to do a detail shot of the bows on the back but they aren't very easy to distinguish in these pictures.

I apologize for my naaasssstttyyy boot bottoms, they are covered in mud, and my unpainted nails. Also, the dress was so busy I thought it best to only accessorize with rings. But crazy, fabulous rings of course.

Also, usually I'm not a big fan of rhinestones, but I saw these ladies and changed my mind.

Another point I should state, I have 4 pairs of black over the knee boots (1 pair are flats).

OTK boots are my absolute favorite so get ready to see them in a lot of posts. Much love!

Finally, first actual outfit post! I decided to take it slow and start simple. I wore this look to dinner last night with a friend. We has a blast and I decided to put it back on today for a little shoot. It reminded me of Audrey Hepburn (my favorite) in Funny Face. Just sleek, classic lines with a scarf added for a little pizazz. I apologize for the scary dark makeup, I had a photo shoot earlier today that required smokey eyes. Oh, and these pictures honestly do not do the look justice. My boyfriend took the pictures and we are still learning how to do the whole do-it-yourself photo shoot.

Oh just ordered a cute gold men's timex watch off of gilt today, only $32! Ch ch check it out :

Major Lack of Well-Styled Celebs at The 2010 Grammys

Disclaimer: excluding dresses from the red carpet (didn't get a chance to watch the before show).

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, it's due to the torrential snow storm that has struck my neck of the woods. I promise I'll post some actual pictures of outfits I have styled soon.

I watched the Grammy's last night and was not very pleased to say the least with the dresses there. There were a surplus of Lady GaGa inspired looks gone wrong. For example...I'm not going to mention any names, but one young lady wore a performance outfit suited for Cirque du Soleil....not the Grammys. Also, what about the futuristic studded tourist visor?

There were few looks that I found truly inspiring.

I will say I was very pleased overall with Beyonce's looks for the night. Her Versace Atelier leather mini dress she performed in was actually very appropriate and well structured. She had fun with it and still managed to look cute. Her actual awards outfit was fabulous, it stole the whole show. The silver beading almost looked like coke tabs, a real piece of art by Giorgio Armani Privé. She dressed with just enough flash and pizazz for the Grammy's.

Rihanna looked very elegant in her white Elie Saab dress as well. I would also like to give a shout out to Miley Cyrus for looking fabulous in her Herve Leger dress and for selling it on eBay and giving the proceeds to the Red Cross for the Haiti relief project.

Keri Hilson In Dolce & Gabbana looked exquisite the overall picture of red carpet elegance.

I also want to say the one of my favorites of the night was the girl who was sitting with Kings of Leon when they won Record of the Year. I have searched everywhere and still can't manage to find out who she was or who designed her dress. It was a cream lacy looking confection with long sleeves and a short hemline. She was beautiful and looked like she stepped out of a fashion magazine from the 60's.

Update: The girl was actually Kings of Leon's Caleb Followill's girlfriend, model Lily Aldridge. She wore a fabulous Phillip Lim dress and a burberry trench coat.

I can't find pictures anywhere but you can catch a glimpse of her in this clip.

My Picks for Best Dressed at the Globes

I felt that this year mainly the girls who played it safe were receiving all the glory for their Golden Globe dresses. For example, yes, Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock looked pretty...but boring. The Golden Globes and Academy Awards are a chance to get away with an extravagant gown, not a pretty dress.

In my opinion, Kate Hudson, Drew Barrymore, Vera Farmiga, and Sofía Vergara we by far the best dressed of the night. Their gowns (yes, gowns, not dresses) had almost an architectural structure to them. They resembled art rather than clothing. Absolutely beautiful.

The masterminds behind these dresses were Atelier Versace (Drew Barrymore), Marchesa (Kate Hudson), Dolce & Gabanna (Vera Farmiga), and last but not least Carolina Herrera (Sofía Vergara).

I would also like to give a shout out to those who didn't quite make the top four but were also fabulous.

Marion Cotillard-Christian Dior
Penélope Cruz-Giorgio Armani Privé
Diane Kruger-Christian Lacroix

Things I like for Spring

After browsing countless Spring 2010 runway shows I have picked out a few of my favorite spring trends.

I should probably let you in on a little something, I love short skirts and dresses.

I love love love high hemlines because honestly it's the most demure way to appear obviously sexy. Cleavage bearing ensembles can be very sexy don't get me wrong, but it's much easier to focus on the stylistic aspects of an outfit it everybody's what-nots aren't hanging out all over the place.

I really have enjoyed all of the nude and neutral tones that designers have incorporated into their spring shows. Having a nude outfit paired with a nude heel can really give the illusion of longer legs, and lets face is, who doesn't want super model stems? Fendi and Burberry-Prorsum had a few nude looks that I loved and added above.

I also like the sheer and peek-a-boo looks that were all over fashion week this year. You're only going to hint at what's really under there. The ones featured above came from the Spring 2010 Fendi, Jason Wu and Jill Stuart collections.

FEATHERS FEATHERS FEATHERS! It's like playing dress-up as a little girl only real life! Thank you for making our childhood fantasies come true. I included my very favorite feathered dress above from the Jason Wu Spring 2010 collection (I would've loved it even more in a deep purple....but hey it's spring fashion week).

Last but not least the final trend that I'm loving is all of the glitz and glam. Metallics are still in. I absolutely love the sequined jacket/dress featured in Phillip Lim's Spring 2010 show.

Blog thoughts.

I have recently stumbled across Liz Cherkasova's blog Late Afternoon and have fallen completely in love. I really appreciate the way she mixes feminine colors with edgy leather and her ability to accessorize is impeccable. I have found myself checking her blog for updates daily. I have decided now is the time to create my own.

I decided to name my blog Ashes of Laughter after the song Ophelia by The Band. Music is a major influence in my life, it should be in everyone's really.

I'm writing a blog mainly to vent about things I that I love. Fashion things.
